Network
From Afterxwiki
A network is a unique collection of servers linked up together to provide a number of alternative places to connect. Often servers are dispersed across the globe and have higher speed dedicated connections than most people's personal Internet connection, so that advantages can be gained by connecting to a server locally to you.
As servers are only computers, a server may fail, crash or disappear, causing a netsplit, and remain unlocatable - fear not - there are other servers for users to connect to!
There is no easy way to chat to someone on another network without using a set of scripts for the purpose, just as it is difficult to chat to an AOL user whilst on MSN Messenger. Each network is self-contained with its own channels and people (although some people do connect to more than one network, the networks remain completely separate as far as other people are concerned).
AfterX is an IRC network of servers and services containing channels, staff and people. We have our own rules, charter, committees and personality. Not all networks offer this, and some networks offer something else.
