Net-Com (Network Committee)

The committee that decides how the network as a whole is run. They may deal with issues ranging from reviewing new server link applications, review of conduct by Opers or other staff, reviewing state of the network and any other issues of concern or progress.

Each admin and co-admin is a member of Net-Com, each server gets one vote. A new admin with less than one month staff experience on the network cannot vote on any matters.

When a vote concerns an admin or co-admin, or his/her server, he/she cannot vote.

Decisions are carried forward when there is a majority of those who voted, reached either by a clear majority of Net-Com, or when the standard 1-week deadline has passed - abstaining from voting in these cases will bring down the overall majority needed to carry out the vote. Some far-reaching issues can only be carried forward by a clear majority of Net-Com such as a server delink or for a new chairperson. In these cases, astaining or not voting at all is counted as a no vote.

Net-Com is headed by the Chairperson (also regarded as a Network Admin/Net Admin), who is nominted by other Net-Com members, and elected by a majority of Net-Com (not just those who voted). The Chair has the authority to override anything on the network, including any votes that are contrary to the spirits of AfterX or negatively impacts the network's users and reputation. Normally the position is up for "tenure" after one-year. There is no reason why a non-admin can't be a network chair, but ideally it should be someone who has long-term experience of the network and has good relationships with all staff members.
