What are botnets?

A botnet is a number of zombie clients connected to the network and is centrally controlled by a script kiddie. They are generally disruptive to the network, annoying legimate users. Large botnets can cause lag and netsplits due to the high traffic load they can potentially generate.

Botnets are reported to a security mailing list, where a large number of staff from a wide range of IRC networks contribute and monitor. Together they analyse and generate a report to the relevant authorities. Meanwhile the bots are then immediately banned from the network - see GZLine to prevent the script kiddie from having access to the bots.

AfterX staff actively seeks out any bots in the early stages and remove them. The staff also monitor the security mailing list to add any pre-emptive bans before they make their way to our network.
